Abstract
Automatically extracting rocks from Martiansurface images is valuable for hazard avoidance androver localization in rover missions. To extract rocks, datafield on image is proposed to model the interaction betweentwo pixels of an image under the imagery characteristicsof Martian surface. Foreground rocks are firstly groupedinto clusters by locating the centers and edges in data fieldafter they are differed from background information viabinarizing partition. Then target rocks are discovered forthe Rover to keep healthy paths. The experiment showsthe data field on image is practical and potential.
