Elastic anisotropy of non-centrosymmetric cubic crystals

Abstract

The parameter of elastic anisotropy both in terms of the real and imaginary elastic moduli has been studied in non-centrosymmetric cubic crystals of bismuth silicate and bismuth germanate. It is shown that, depending on the parameter sign, noncentrosymmetric cubic crystals as well as centrosymmetric ones can be divided into two types: with positive or negative anisotropy of second-order elastic moduli. Accordingly, it is changed the ratio between the velocities and attenuation coefficients of longitudinal and transverse acoustic waves along specific crystallographic directions in the cubic crystals.
