Abstract

The influence of the dose of γ-irradiation on the surface roughness and Raman spectra of low-density polyethylene has been studied. After irradiation with a dose of 900 kGy, the average surface roughness of the polymer increases by 62%. The Raman spectrum of the irradiated polymer coincides with that of the pristine polymer, except for a slight increase in the intensity of the 1419-cm−1 peak in the irradiated sample.
