Abstract
This article addresses the issue of machines by author Samuel Butler in the short story "Erevon", specifically referring to "Erevon and Machine Consciousness", where Erewonians believe in the possibility of machine consciousness, which will eventually become an extension of the people who created them, a kind of appendage, like an additional limb to increase efficiency. The Book of Machines claims that machine consciousness will come much faster than Butler's intuition about how fast technology will advance, thus allowing the reader to interact directly with the philosophy without being filtered.
