Abstract

To irradiate neoplasms located close to radiosensitive structures and organs, it is necessary to provide an accurate spatial alignment of the beam with the target in proton therapy sessions. The dose drops sharply beyond the boundaries of the target, which makes it possible to irradiate localities that were not accessible previously for radiation therapy. The capabilities of FLUKA and Geant4 software packages for simulating the range of proton beams in numerical calculations intended for dosimetry and radiation therapy are presented.
