A Bibliometric Analysis of the Articles on Cryptocurrency Published During 2018-2022
Abstract
The rise of cryptocurrencies has brought about significant changes in various sectors of the global economy, and its impact on the research of cryptocurrency cannot be overlooked. In the past five to six years, the rapid growth of cryptocurrency has captivated the masses, with particular interest directed towards stablecoins, NFTs, and bitcoin. The current investigation was undertaken as a literature review to examine the research context of cryptocurrency globally between the period of 2018 and 2022. The findings revealed an increasing trend in the publication of research papers about cryptocurrency during the investigated time frame. Notably, the United States of America (USA) emerged as the predominant contributor, accounting for a significant proportion (30%) of the total papers and authors. In conclusion, the current advancements in blockchain technology, computing technologies, and the cryptocurrency exchange market, coupled with the augmented accessibility of data and heightened awareness through media and policy initiatives, have significantly contributed to the rise in scholarly attention towards the study of cryptocurrencies.
