Scalable POS and Self-Checkout Solutions for Global Retail
Abstract
With retail entering the post-digital, omnichannel era, the world is experiencing a rapidly growing demand of scalable Point-of-Sale (POS) and self-checkout (SCO) systems. This is necessitated by the need of customers to demand speed, autonomy and contactless convenience and the need of retailers to demand cost reduction, data-driven business and greater resiliency. In this paper, we explore the evolution of POS and SCO technologies in modern times, the focus on their technical structure, cultural considerations and how they are moving forward to the next stage through innovation. It provides a five-layer theoretical construct comprising of modular infrastructure, real-time transaction engines, scaleable system integration, interfaces that are culturally adaptable, and powerful compliance structures. The article offers valuable strategic recommendations to the executive of the retail industry who want to implement or expand these systems in global and multicultural markets by synthesising recent research.
