Development of Assertive Behavior Skills in Delinquent Adolescents
Abstract
The topical issue of modern education is creation of the conditions for the development and self-realization of a person in society, fostering social activity and the formation of a new type of interpersonal relations based primarily on independence, responsibility and confidence. From this perspective, it becomes urgent to investigate the social development of adolescents’ personality, since adolescents are the ones who strive to be independent and active. The article focuses on the formation of assertive behavior skills in delinquent adolescents, the essence and motives of teenagers’ insecure behavior at a penitentiary institution, as well as hallmarks of delinquent adolescents’ assertive behavior. The following research methods were selected to identify socially significant integrative properties of delinquent adolescents’ personality assertiveness: on-site observation, where one of the authors worked as an educational psychologist in the penitentiary institution “Raifa vocational boarding school for boys” (hereinafter referred to as Raifa boarding school) (Republic of Tatarstan, Russia); the analysis of documents describing the social conditions of adolescents’ development; the test questionnaire "Assertiveness Level Assessment"; the test-questionnaire "Success and fear of failure motivations" (SFFM). 43 boys of Raifa boarding school took part in the study. The age of the subjects is 14-16 years old.The results of the study. Correctional and developmental programs can be successfully used in the practice of correctional work of teachers and psychologists of penitentiary institutions. The obtained results help determine promising directions for further research of the problems of assertive behavior skills formation in delinquent adolescents.
