Abstract
We studied the third harmonic generation of femtosecond and picosecond pulses in plasmas prepared during laser ablation of various targets under different experimental conditions. Enhanced conversion efficiency in the cases of femtosecond and picosecond pulses was observed in the boron and manganese plasmas compared with In, C, Be, Cr, W and Mo plasmas. The optimization of this process allows for choosing the appropriate laser plumes for conversion of the wavelength of picosecond and femtosecond laser sources in the shorter wavelength range.
