Abstract

Abstract The paper is devoted to the development of a theory and method for calculating thick plates. A detailed analysis of well-known publications devoted to this problem is given. A theory and a method were developed to assess the stress-strain state of thick plates without simplifying hypotheses within the framework of three-dimensional theory of elasticity. When constructing a theory, all components of strains and stresses arising from the nonlinearity of the law of displacement distribution along the plate thickness were taken into account. The equations of motion of the plate were constructed with respect to forces, moments and bimoments. The solution method was based on exact expressions in trigonometric functions. The bending of isotropic and orthotropic plates was considered as a calculation example. The solution obtained showed the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed bimoment theory in assessing the stress-strain state of thick plates.
