Abstract

A new nitroso derivative of β-naphthol, 2-hydroxy-3-nitrosonaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde, has been synthesized, and its structure has been studied by 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. This compound can be immobilized on a fibrous support and used as specific analytical reagent for the determination of metal ions, in particular cobalt(II). A procedure for the determination of cobalt(II) in wastewater has been proposed.
