Shuichiro Kawamata received a B.S. in 1949 from Tohoku University. The same year he joined the Electric Power Division at the Electrotechnical Technical Laboratory of Ministry of the International Trade and Industry, Tokyo, and was promoted to Section Head, Plasma Research Section. In 1967 he was appointed a Professor at Utsunomiya University. From 1969 to 1970 he served as a counselor at Utsunomiya University. He received a Best Paper Award from I.E.E., Japan in 1963. He is a member of Japanese Physics Society; Japanese Society for Atmospheric Electricity; and a member of the Special Interest Group on Electric Discharges
