Theory of weak magnetism of Bloch electrons, accounting for spin and spin–orbit interactions
Аннотация
A theory of the magnetic susceptibility of weakly split states near symmetry points of the Brillouin zone is formulated. Using Green’s functions, a weak magnetism equation is obtained which makes it possible to calculate the susceptibility directly if a kp expansion of the Hamiltonian matrix is available near the points where these states are located. The susceptibility is represented as a sum of three contributions; orbital, spin, and spin–orbital. The spin–orbit interaction appears in all the susceptibility components, while a significant portion of it is contained in the orbital and spin susceptibilities if this interaction leads to splitting of the energy spectrum. The spin–orbit susceptibility, as shown for the two-band energy spectrum model, is linear in the spin–orbit interaction parameter.
