The specific heat of layered structures
Аннотация
This paper considers the effect of the distinctive features of the phonon spectrum of layered structures, i.e., the existence of a flexural branch, on their thermodynamic characteristics. A method proposed for processing experimental data on the specific heat permits important parameters of the phonon spectrum of layered crystals to be determined. Fairly good agreement is found to exist between the experimentally measured specific heat of layered crystals and that calculated with the assumption of partial excitation of degrees of freedom for the low-frequency region of the phonon spectrum within the framework of the Lifshitz model. An analysis is made of the temperature dependence of the specific heat for a number of layered substances according to the data in the literature as well the results of our own measurements of the specific heat of In4Se3 single crystals in the temperature range from 2 to 80°K.
