Giant anomalies of magnetic susceptibility due to energy band degeneracy in crystals

Giant anomalies in magnetic susceptibility are investigated under conditions of band degeneracy. It is found that at low temperatures the susceptibility value increases indefinitely as the chemical potential approaches the degeneracy energy. The types of degeneracy for which such anomalies are possible are established, and the features of magnetic susceptibility are specified for each particular case. The theoretical results are compared with available experimental data.
