Using the Muthen Model as a Choice Model: Monte Carlo Experiments and Application to Panel Data

[@R9] developed a method for the factor analysis of dichotomous variables. Using information from the first and second order proportions of the data, the method fits a multiple factor model. Despite successful empirical applications, Monte Carlo experiments regarding the robustness of the Muthen Model are limited. The purpose of this paper is twofold: (1) to test the model in a Monte Carlo context and (2) using panel data, to show the effectiveness of the model for the study of consumer choice. Results show the model to perform well in both simulation and application to panel data.
