Low-temperature anomalies in the temperature dependence of the strength and plasticity of metallic glasses
Аннотация
An anomalous temperature dependence of the strength σf has been found in the metallic glasses Ni78Si8B14 (Vitrovac-0080) and Fe40Ni40B20 (Vitrovac-0040) in the temperature range T = 4.2−300 K, different from the generally accepted assumption of a constant σf in the region of heterogeneous plastic deformation. The anomalies observed are considered an indication of large residual internal stresses σjki in amorphous metal alloys which increase on decreasing the temperature and reach 0.01E (E is Young’s modulus) at 4.2 K. The low-temperature plasticity of the glasses point to an appreciable magnitude of the internal tangential stresses which can be produced by the presence of line defects. The hypothesis is made that in glasses which have low-temperature plasticity one can expect low-temperature anomalies in some other physical properties.
