Annotatsiya

The investigation of problems relating to the moral education of the young school pupil in the family setting is of great importance in the practice of communist education. Accordingly, the following tasks were posed in the course of our experiment: identification of the basic factors influencing the moral development of young school pupils, determination of the dependence between factors in the family environment and the level of moral development of young school pupils, indication of ways to improve the conditions for the moral education of the school pupil in the family setting, and elaboration of recommendations for elementary grade teachers regarding universal pedagogical instruction for parents. Our experimental study was carried out among urban and rural families in Sumy Region. Of the 1,040 first-graders in the study, 70.6 percent were reared exclusively in their families prior to attending school, while 29.4 percent were reared in their families and in preschool institutions. Some of the children had attended preschool institutions for a short time. One out of every twelve children had attended kindergarten or day nursery for less than one year; one out of every ten had attended kindergarten or day nursery for one to two years. During the first school quarter, when the first-graders were studied, the school had not yet been able to alter the early moral ideas, feelings, and habits developed by the pupils during the previous seven years of life with their families.
