Ensuring the safety of underground dams on subsidence bases

The paper considers ways to prevent cracking in the body and foundations of the earth dam of the Nizhne-Alaarchinsky reservoir (Republic of Kyrgyzstan).To ensure crack resistance of the soil dam of the Nizhne-Alaarchinsky reservoir, model tests of the dam and its subsidence base were carried out in the field of centrifugal forces.The base model was made from undisturbed soils, displayed directly on the construction site. The monoliths were placed in the centrifuge, the gaps between the monoliths were clogged with the soil of the same density. The outlines of the base were drawn depending on the scale of the modeling and the fragment of the base. The cassette with the base was placed in the rocker arm of the centrifugal machine and was rotated by applying the pressure of the natural load. The soil of the disturbed structure was laid in a cassette with a base layer by layer. Then the base was flooded, and the centrifugal machine was again turned to simulate the operational period.Hazardous fracture zones were identified.
