Integrating Ecological Sustainability into the Fundamental Framework of Business Strategies through the Utilization of Digital Technology

Recent climate change data highlights the importance of integrating ecological with economic sustainability in business. Emerging start-ups prove that environmentally sustainable enterprise models (EM) protect the environment and drive economic success. Established companies must adopt both digital and sustainable EM transformations. Our analysis of 32 pioneering start-ups led to a holistic framework of digital sustainable EMs. We identified four paradigms: Sustainable Software Solution, Sustainable Product-Service System, Sustainability Intelligence, and Digital Sustainable Platform. Digital technology is crucial in developing ecological EMs, contributing long-term value economically, ecologically, and technologically. Our framework offers actionable insights for creating a sustainable reality through digital technology in EMs. Embracing this framework is both a strategic advantage and a moral imperative for enterprises committed to a sustainable future.
