Annotatsiya

Abstract: Backsliding, understood as the temporary regression to earlier interlanguage forms, is a well-documented phenomenon in second language acquisition (SLA). Despite the fact that the phenomenon of backsliding is known as a natural stage of interlanguage development, its connection to cognitive load and contextual factors has not been studied. This study aims to synthesize existing studies and discuss how variations in cognitive load and context influence the occurrence of academic regression during language performance. As a method, the study made inferences on academic databases such as “Google Scholar” and “ScienceDirect” (Elsevier). The results of the findings indicate that backsliding occurs more frequently under high cognitive load, particularly during tasks that require simultaneous processing of grammatical form and semantic meaning. to encourage more stability and consistency in the use of second languages.
