Abstract
Composition, morphology, and electronic structure of the surface of CdS nanofilms with a thickness of 100–400 nm obtained on the surface of Mo(III) by thermal deposition are studied for the first time using Auger electron spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, elastically scattered low-energy-electron spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The energy-band diagram of a CdS film is plotted. It is established that the valence band of the film has two maxima due to the excitation of electrons from the 5s states of Cd and the hybridized states 5sCd and 3pS.
