Effect of isovalent impurities and pressure on the magnetic properties and the parameters of the energy spectrum of cadmium
Аннотация
The behavior of the magnetic susceptibility of a cadmium single crystal upon introduction of isovalent impurities and under pressure at low temperatures (T≃20°K) is analyzed on the basis of an earlier constructed theory of magnetism in normal hcp metals. The effect of impurity scattering on the anomalies of the magnetic susceptibility are taken into account in terms of the effective temperature, which can be determined experimentally. Through a comparison of the calculated magnetic susceptibility with experimental data, there have been determined several energy-spectrum parameters of pure cadmium as well as the dependence of the band splitting and of the position of the level of the chemical potential on the concentration of magnesium and mercury impurities and on the applied pressure. Quantitative characteristics of the pseudopotential of cadmium near the first zero of the form factor have been obtained in the “on the Fermi sphere” approximation.
